BREATHE EASY

Let's add life to our years and years to our life by conscious breathing.  It's as easy as ABC - Always Breathe Consciously.

The most important action in our life is breathing.  It's the first thing we do when we are born and the last thing we do when we leave the body.  Most of us in the between time give little attention to the breath.  Many of us are shallow breathers:  we breathe only from the lungs and rarely do we fill the diaphragm.

Deep breathing (conscious breathing) delivers oxygens to all parts of the body.  Millions of people around the world don't have access to medical care as we know it; and many of them heal themselves by conscious breathing.  They call it pranayama - attention to breath.

As we confront challenges or face stressful situations, we automatically, it seems, begin to breathe deeply.  Sometimes we count to ten before we respond.  This is the body's response mechanism for health defense.

Many people smoke cigarettes for the same purpose.  They breathe deeply and automatically when smoking.  The body becomes addicted to the act of smoking, addicted to the deep inhilations.  Substituting a simple "drinking straw" for the cigarette has cured many of smoking.  The body needs and sometimes "begs" for more breath.  Instead of substituting another chemical substance for nicotine, let's substitute oxygen.

KEEP BREATHING

Here’s a little exercise
It’s as simple as can be.
And even though it’s easy,
It can set you free.
Just close your eyes and
your mouth;
Now inhale: 1 – 2 – 3.
Hold for 3 seconds _ _ _.
Now exhale con-scious-ly.
God is the very breath we breathe,
In Him there is no death.
Just keep on breathing in and out,
Giving thanks for Holy Breath.
